Privacy Policy

PastWise ("we", "our", "the app") is a mobile app that shows historical information about places near you. This policy explains what data we collect, why, and how you can control it.

Data We Collect

Account information. You sign in with Google or Apple Sign-In (or use the app as a guest). We receive your name, email address, and a unique account identifier from the sign-in provider. Guest accounts are identified only by a random device-linked ID until you choose to sign in.

Location.With your permission, we use your device's location to show historic places near you on the map. Location access is optional — the app works with a default location if you decline, though nearby-places features will be less accurate.

User-generated content. If you write comments, notes, or contribute place information, that content is stored together with your account ID and is reviewed by moderators before it becomes visible to other users.

Purchases and subscriptions. If you make a purchase (donation or subscription), our payments provider, RevenueCat, processes the transaction and links your purchase/entitlement history to your account ID. We do not see or store your payment card details — Apple and RevenueCat handle that.

Push notifications. If you enable notifications, we use OneSignal to deliver them. Your account ID and language preference are shared with OneSignal so it can target notifications to you.

Advertising.The app shows ads via Google AdMob (Google Mobile Ads). AdMob may use your device's advertising identifier (IDFA) and other device data to show and measure ads, subject to your iOS Tracking Transparency choice.

Analytics. We use Firebase Analytics to understand app usage (e.g. screens viewed, features used) in aggregate. This data is tied to an anonymous analytics identifier, not your name or email.

How We Use Your Data

• To provide core app features (map, place details, bookmarks, history trail)
• To moderate and publish user-submitted content
• To process purchases and manage subscription entitlements
• To send notifications you've opted into
• To show ads and measure their performance
• To understand and improve app usage through aggregate analytics

We do not sell your personal data.

Third-Party Services

Data may be processed by: Supabase (database, authentication), Google Sign-In, Apple Sign-In, RevenueCat (purchases), OneSignal (push notifications), Google AdMob (advertising), and Firebase Analytics (analytics). Each provider processes data under its own privacy policy.

Data Retention

We retain your account data and content for as long as your account is active. Content that has been rejected or removed by moderation may still be retained for abuse-prevention purposes.

Your Rights and Account Deletion

You can request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by contacting us at hello@pastwise.app. We will delete your account data within a reasonable time, except where retention is required by law.

Depending on your location, you may have additional rights (access, correction, portability, objection) under applicable law (e.g. GDPR, KVKK). Contact us to exercise these rights.

Children's Privacy

PastWise is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above.
