Terms of Use

The rules for using PastWise, including content, subscription, and account terms.

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the PastWise mobile app ("PastWise", "the app", "we", "our"). By creating an account or using the app, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the app.

1. Eligibility

You must be at least 13 years old to use PastWise. If you are under 18, you confirm you have a parent or guardian's permission to use the app.

2. Accounts

You may use the app as a guest or sign in with Google or Apple. You are responsible for the activity that happens under your account. Notify us at hello@pastwise.app if you believe your account has been compromised.

3. User-Generated Content and Zero-Tolerance Policy

PastWise lets you post comments, notes, and place contributions, and use in-app chat ("User Content"). By posting User Content, you agree that it is your own, that you have the right to share it, and that it will not:

  • Be illegal, defamatory, obscene, hateful, or threatening;
  • Harass, abuse, bully, or target any individual or group;
  • Impersonate any person or entity, or misrepresent your affiliation;
  • Contain spam, scams, malware, or unauthorized advertising;
  • Infringe anyone's intellectual property or privacy rights.

We have zero tolerance for objectionable content and abusive behavior. User Content is subject to moderation and may be reviewed, rejected, or removed at our discretion, with or without notice. Repeated or severe violations will result in account suspension or termination.

Reporting and blocking. If you encounter objectionable content or an abusive user, you can report it directly from the app (via the report option on comments, chat messages, and profiles) or block the user, which immediately hides their content from your feed. Reports are reviewed by our moderation team. See the in-app Help/Support section for details.

4. Prohibited Conduct

You agree not to: reverse-engineer or misuse the app; interfere with its normal operation; scrape or harvest data without permission; or use the app for any unlawful purpose.

5. Subscriptions and Purchases

PastWise offers optional auto-renewing subscriptions ("All-Access Pass") and one-time purchases, processed through the Apple App Store and RevenueCat.

  • Payment. Payment is charged to your Apple ID account at confirmation of purchase.
  • Auto-renewal. Subscriptions automatically renew unless auto-renew is turned off at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your account will be charged for renewal within 24 hours prior to the end of the current period, at the price you agreed to.
  • Managing and cancelling. You can manage or cancel your subscription anytime in your Apple ID Account Settings, after purchase.
  • Free trial (if offered). Any unused portion of a free trial period will be forfeited when you purchase a subscription, where applicable.
  • Refunds. Refund requests are handled by Apple in accordance with their policies, not by us directly.
  • Pricing and subscription lengths are shown in the app's purchase screen before you confirm payment.

6. Intellectual Property

The app, its design, and its original content (excluding User Content and third-party historical data such as Wikipedia/Wikidata/OpenStreetMap sources, which are governed by their own licenses as noted in the app) are owned by us and protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

7. Termination

We may suspend or terminate your access to the app at any time, including for violations of these Terms, without prior notice.

8. Disclaimer and Limitation of Liability

The app is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. Historical information is provided for informational purposes and may be incomplete or inaccurate. To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the app.

9. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the "Last updated" date above. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

10. Governing Law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Republic of Türkiye, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
